A few ideas to check: heavy xref's? True type fonts? Import of DWG files? A lot of bitmap files xref'd in?

The one file I created that was slow and sluggish used a lot of photos for an existing project. The photo files were WAY too big, and after I downsized them the file became more peppy.

Mark, Clay, or Josh may have other/better suggestions.

I'm guessing you use Save and Exit so DataCAD compresses the file before exiting which does take longer? Another method is to press F on the keyboard to do a forced save which updates the AEC file you're in. You also have the option of pressing F again to update the DBK file. Then simply exit the drawing without saving when prompted. I've also noticed if you have any xrefs /self-xrefs on screen when saving it does take longer. The same applies when using Purge drawing.

Clay had passed a similar trick onto me about a slow opening and closing file and similar to what Mark Bell posted. I hit CTRL S to save the file to the hard drive and then just click the X at the top, right of the screen to close the file without going through the DCAD saving process. Nothing is lost and the file saves this way in seconds.
